about

And now we get to the point of it all. The song comes from an episode in 2004, when we were playing as the Cruel Cuts in downtown St. Louis. A guy came up to me after the set and couldn't stop going on about how much he loved our stuff. He asked if we had any cds, i told him sure and offered to sell him one. He refused to pay for it. He hinted around that I should give him one for free, but I had spent approx. $6 a piece to make them, why should I give it away if he liked it so much. He started walking away, asking me if I was sure I wouldn't just give it to him, and at that point I got really annoyed. It takes a lot of gall to treat someone's work like that. You can go spend $3 or $4 at the bar on a single drink, but you won't pay $6 for something that I spent months and years working on? It was at this point I realized music was dead and had no value anymore. And watching the whole napster, pirated music thing unfold, watching music stores go out of business, and watching once great bands shilling their wares on the streets like common beggars, it put everything into perspective for me.
