This was both an attempt at recording a country music album and a new way of song-writing and I think I fell a little short in both goals.

With "The Hank Guthrie Diaries", I released the notes for this album before I'd even started recording it. I think it's the first time in music history that "the making of the album" came out before the album did!

Since the songs were all written in a short period of time, some of them are quite similar to one another. Some themes are re-visited, I'd say especially "Maybe This Time" and "That is for Real". "Maybe This Time" starts off differently, you'd almost think it was a new song, and then it drags itself inexorably back into the theme. Then there's "Oh No Yeah" which shares a lot of it's spirit with "Make up Your Mind" from "The Cruel Cuts: Part 2".
